By car: The city is chaotic, like other Italian cities of equal size. The traffic is busy during peak hours around the area of the circular paths. The car parks are all paid, or reserved for residents. In case you have not owned a car, there are many rental agencies in town, including Hertz and Avis.

By bus: The local public transport in the city of Florence is run by two companies: ATAF and Li-nea. Please refer to their websites for information on schedules, times and covered areas of the city.

By taxi: One of the most common ways to run a city is by taxi. In Florence the taxi station is in the square of the railway station (Santa Maria Novella). It's possible to book a taxi via telephone dialing 055-4390.

By tramway: The new public transport in Florence, everybody discuss about it even before is put into service (in 2012). There are three lines under construction, one of them (line 1) almost completed. You can follow the progress of work in real time on the official site of the project .

On foot: Given the size of the city after all contained, is not a bad idea to move on foot. Please note that the historic center is closed to traffic, and in the summer low-traffic area is also valid at night.
