Description

Pienza is a small town in the province of Siena. It's the most important center of Val d'Orcia, which includes along with other countries such as Montalcino and San Quirico d'Orcia. The whole valley was declared in 2004 by UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the village of Pienza is UNESCO World Heritage Site from 1996. Than just walking the beautiful streets of the town and its walls, are worthy of note Pienza Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta), the Palazzo Piccolomini (also known as the Papal Palace; it was commissioned by Pope Pius II to Rossellino Bernardo, under the project of rebuilding the city of Pienza as an ideal town. Rossellino was inspired by Palazzo Rucellai in Florence) and the church of San Francesco, of the thirteenth-century.
