Description

San Gimignano, the city of towers, is a medieval village very well preserved in Tuscany. It was declared by UNESCO World Heritage of Humanity in 1990. Its beautiful skyline is equipped with 14 towers (there were 76 in the Middle Ages), the oldest of which dates to the thirteenth century. All the towers have the characteristic to be without windows, and they were built by the most important families in the country, to symbolize their dominion, territorial and economic. Fulcrum of the town is the stunning Piazza del Duomo, which overlooks the Palazzo del Podestà. Very interesting are the Palazzo del Popolo, the Piazza della Cisterna, the Fortress and the Church of St. Augustine. The city is even plenty of museums.
