Piazza della Repubblica (Republic Square) is a square in the center of Florence in nineteenth century style, with rectangular shape with sides of about 75x100 m; there are beautiful cafes and luxury hotels, large mansions and an elegant shopping gallery. Today is for pedestrian use, and it represents the "living room" of the city, and is the most elegant centerpiece of the area's tourist trade in the city. One side of the square is dominated by a big arch of triumph, bearing the following inscription:

L'ANTICO CENTRO DELLA CITTÀ (THE OLD CITY CENTER)
DA SECOLARE SQUALLORE (FROM SECULAR DIRT)
A VITA NUOVA RESTITUITO (COMES BACK TO A NEW LIFE)
