Palazzo Pitti e il retrostante giardino di Boboli

Palazzo Pitti, located in Pitti Square, was constructed to be the largest and elegant residence in the city. It takes its name from the family of Luca Pitti, a local banker who more than anything else wanted a house bigger than that of the Medici family. After a few years after the construction of the building, the Pitti family fell into disgrace, and the heirs had to sell the building to the Medici. Doing that, it became the main residence of the Medici family.

Today, Palazzo Pitti houses a big number of museums including the Galleria Palatina (an art gallery with works by authors such as Raphael and Titian), the Argenti Museum and the Gallery of Costume. Very important is also the garden of the palace, the Boboli Garden .
