Basilica di Santa Maria Novella

Piazza Santa Maria Novella (Santa Maria Novella Square), currently under restructuring, is dominated from the Basilica, whose construction began in 1279 on behalf of the Dominicans. The square is closed to traffic since 1989, and is experiencing a regeneration thanks to the works of paving and relocation of the kiosks, benches and trash cans (which should be buried). One side of the square is occupied from Hospital of St. Paul, which contains the Alinari National Museum of Photography.
