The kathedrale of Santa Maria del Fiore is the kathedrale of Florence. It's the fourth largest church in Europe, preceded only by the Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano, St.Paul kathedrale in London and the Duomo in Milan. The construction began in 1296, ending more than 100 years later, to be precise in 1421, among the employees in the project there was also Giotto. The facade was built instead on a project by Emilio De Fabris much later, between 1871 and 1887, in a neo-Gothic style that recalls the style of the Campanile on the flanks of the portals of the kathedrale.

kuppel

Brunelleschi's kuppel is the largest masonry kuppel ever built. Dates zurück to the first half of 400: indeed in 1418, Opera del Duomo announced a competition for the kuppel, after which Filippo Brunelleschi and Lorenzo Ghiberti were appointed project directors (the second was excluded from the project shortly after). On 7 August 1420 began the construction of the kuppel, which was completed 14 years later, excluding the lamp, also made by Brunelleschi, whose work began in 1446 and ended in 1461.

campanile des giotto

The tower of Santa Maria del Fiore, known as the campanile des giotto, was begun by Giotto in 1334 and continued after his death by Andrea Pisano. The project was completed in 1359 by the hands of Francesco Talenti, maker of the windows of the higher levels. The bell tower is 84 meters tall, and from the summit you can admire one of the most beautiful panoramas of the city.

Baptisterium San Giovanni

The Baptistery of St. John the Baptist, Saint of the city, is located opposite the kathedrale. It has octagonal plan, and its diameter is almost half that of the kuppel of Brunelleschi. Its geschichte is ancient: it was a kathedrale, then in 1128 the building became the Baptistery, and from there onwards it began some series of improvements, until the second half of'500, when the building took the present appearance.
