Piazza Santa Croce (Saint Cross Square), beautiful thanks to the Church, is a large rectangular square. Both the time of the Renaissance, both in modern times hosts events, parties and games, like Florentine Historical Football, which every June attracts tens of thousands of supporters and just curious. In December Piazza S. Croce held a christmas market, modeled on the much more famous christmas markets in mountain cities. In front of the basilica there is a statue that the city dedicated to the poet Dante Alighieri.
